Men’s Mixer – Wednesday, January 9th, 2019

Welcome all El Tigre golfers,

The game for this Wednesday, January 9th will be a four person Team Stableford competition. As a reminder, Team Stableford is a point system format with each player gaining points for their net score on each hole. Net eagles 5 points, net birdies 3 points, net pars 2 points and net bogeys 1 point. The team with the most points accumulated at the completion of 18 holes will be your winner.

Please record all gross/net scores on your scorecard for all team players. Also, for each hole include a team total based on the point system described above. Remember to also circle any gross deuces on your card for any player that recorded a gross birdie on any of the par 3’s or a gross eagle on any of the par 4’s.  Lastly, please remember to repair divot holes, ball marks and smooth any footprints in bunkers.

Good luck to everyone. Also, many thanks to our El Capitan for helping me out and running things while I have been tied up with family issues and making frequent trips to Texas. Myles’s help is greatly appreciated.

I wish everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

Markus

2019 Gringo Classic Players Eligibility

The Gringo Classic

In the beginning the spirit of the Gringo Classic was to bring together people for a couple days of good old fun, golf, and spirited rivalry. It was hoped in the beginning that it might attract more of the Mexican golfers that are eligible to participate. The Gringo Classic was never intended to be a members only tournament, as we already have two of these tournaments every year. To make sure that we had enough players for the event, the players from the El Tigre men’s league were invited to sign up first.

There has been many suggestions put forth to the organizing committee, concerning who should be eligible to play, and whether there should be a Canada vs USA format. The five statements below will be the standard for the 2019 and future Gringo Classic tournaments.

1. Men’s League members will be given preference to play.

2. Guests of members that are returning to play in the GC will be
slotted after members have signed up.

3. If space is available, new guests of members that have never played
in the GC will be slotted.

4. If in the future, players with professional status would like to
play, they will play from the black tee’s with handicap calculated
according to their index.

5. The Canada vs USA format will be the standard.

Regards,

Gringo Classic Organizing Committee

Skins Game Pairings Changes

Too many players are either emailing me after the 3 pm cutoff wanting to play the next day, or else are showing up the next day and expecting to be added to the game. One Friday last month we had 7 changes–3 who emailed me Thursday evening, 2 who emailed me Friday morning, and 2 who just showed up. This causes confusion and extra work for both me and the cart guys, and I think by accommodating these players I am encouraging this to continue. So I am going to try something new this year:

  • If you forget to sign up by 3 pm, or your plans change after 3 pm to make you available the next day, do not email me, because I will not change the published pairings. But if you want to show up and take your chances, please do so.
  • If you are not in the pairings, but you show up for the skins game, here’s what we’ll do:
    • If there is a threesome available, I’ll add you to make a foursome.
    • If there are only foursomes, but 3 unscheduled players show up, I’ll add you as a threesome.
    • If there are only foursomes, but 1 or 2 unscheduled players show up, you will not play in the skins game. Hopefully you can work with the starter and play a round on your own.
  • Please DO notify me if you have signed up to play and you have a guest who wants to play with you. Do this early enough that I will see the email in time to add your guest before the 3 pm cutoff; that way your guest will be included in the pairings, playing with you.

I know a few of you have trouble dealing with the website, either because you have forgotten your password or because you just are not computer savvy. With these new rules, we’ll have to work through these issues. So let me know if you are still having trouble using the website and I will work with you to make it easier.

As you undoubtedly know, the USGA and RCGA have implemented numerous changes to the Rules of Golf. Those rules are now in effect, so we all need to become familiar with them. Keith Bell provided us with a nice summary in PDF form, and it is available here.
