Hola El Tigre Golfers,
This morning, I received tragic news concerning the passing of our dear friend and fellow golfer, Jim Von Gremp. As many of you might know, Jim had valiantly fought a long battle with cancer for the last 6+ years. In addition to being a good friend, Jim was also a neighbor of mine at Playa Royale and we spent many years working together in various governance roles in support of the greater Playa Royale community. Jim is survived by his wife Susan who was always Jim’s anchor and soulmate throughout their marriage and especially during his long and difficult battle with cancer. Susan provided many of us with regular updates concerning Jim’s ever evolving cancer odyssey, for which we were always very grateful for. Jim was much loved and admired by all golfers and he will be sorely missed by all of us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Susan and the family.
We will have an opportunity early next year to have a formal Memorial golf event where we will be able to remember and pay tribute to Jim, as well as other fellow golfers that have recently passed. Additional information concerning this event will be forthcoming later this year.
With deep sorrow,
Markus
Steve Johnson and El Tigre Men’s League members – Markus has advised you of the passing of Jim von Gremp.
I met Jim many years ago before either of us were El Tigre members. We both were at El Tigre one early morning each trying to get into a tee time. I was told there were no openings, but then the starter said to me “there is another guy who is looking to play too, and if you could both go to the first tee right now, I’ll squeeze you both in and you can play together. So I did and Jim did and we played together for the first time. We hit it off and played together many times and w mutual good friend Mike Olson and the late Larry Klaus, becoming great friends on and off the links!
My wife Jackie and his wife Susan, and members Mike Olson and Luann became close friends, visiting each other in their Arkansas home and our Minnesota homes. We also took a golf trip together to Scotland.
Unfortunately Jim’s cancer spread and last season, he could not play golf any more in league or otherwise. But, it didn’t diminish his friendliness at El Tigre. Last season Jim would show up after Men’s League for the announcement of the winners to congratulate them and talk with his friends. He even had new sleeves of balls to give out.
Jim von Gremp was a great husband to Susan, father to his children and grandchildren and to his friends who loved him dearly. He will be sorely missed!
God bless our friend Jim in heaven and his family!
